Friction Of The Day...

I call it the 180 degree Syndrome, when apparently smart people, especially professors and journalists, get their premises wrong. Here is a snippet from an article about "freegans".

THE Thanksgiving holiday is over and the frenzied Christmas shopping season has begun. This is bonanza time for the tribe of rummaging Americans known as "freegans".

The anti-capitalist freegans - the name combines "free" and "vegan" - are so appalled by the waste of the consumer society that they try to live on the leftovers, scavenging for food in supermarket dustbins.

"It's fun. It's a thrill. It's more fun and more satisfying than just going to the store and saying, 'I wanted some bread and I got it'. It's the surprise - and the prize," said Janet Kalish, a New York high school teacher who describes herself as "60 per cent freegan".

"The No 1 problem is that Americans have lost touch with what food is for," Professor Jones said. "We have lost touch with the processes that bring it to the table and we don’t notice the inefficiency."

Did you catch it? Professor Jones says capitalism is so inefficient that we produce too much! Capitalism is so inefficient that freegans can live out of garbage cans! That capitalism is so inefficient that Professor Jones can make a living complaining about it! He's 180 Degress out.

End Poverty, Promote Capitalism...

As they say, "It's Deja Vu all over again!". As we have seen over the last 120 years almost on a predicted schedule a congressional dog and pony show was on display in Washington yesterday. It was the Republicans apologizing for capitalism and the Democrats seething to abolish it! And what was worst is the oil executives having to explain their right to make a profit.

One line could have summed it up if only someone had the balls to utter, "Mister Senator, the day you admit that a 33 percent tax rate is excessive taxation will be the day I admit a 9.8 percent profit margin is excessive profits!".

Defining Capitalism...

Capitalism: Michael Moore's ability to seperate the masses from their money.

Just got done reading a book by Peter Schweizer on the liberal elite, but it could have also included a few conservatives. Here are a few teasers:

"I don't own a single share of stock," Michael Moore declares. No, his tax returns show he has owned hundreds of thousands -- profiting from some of the very companies (like Halliburton and Boeing) he viciously enounces .

How Moore's working-class, "regular guy" pose is contradicted by his lavish lifestyle and prima donna behavior -- such as traveling the country in a private jet accompanied by a fleet of private SUVs and bodyguards .

Moore also relentlessly exposes those who fail to meet his standards of racial fairness and equality. So, of the 134 producers, editors, cinematographers, composers, and production coordinators Moore he hired to work on his many movies, how many do you think were black?

The Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel: ultra-left class-warrior, defender of the inheritance tax -- and trust-fund heiress who fought the IRS all the way to the Supreme Court to avoid paying $2 million in estate taxes .

Princeton "ethics" professor Peter Singer crusades for euthanasia for the severely disabled and terminally ill. But when it comes to
his own mother, he operates according to more humane principles (fortunately for her) .

During the 2004 campaign, John Kerry complained that the "super-rich" don't pay their fair share in taxes. Care to guess what percentage of their income Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry -- who are worth over $700 million -- are paying in taxes?

End Poverty, Promote Capitalism...

As a new feature here I will be celebrating the "Champions of Capitalism" and as not to piss off the other side I will also be exposing a few of the anti-capitalists also.

Our first expose' is for the other team. You see him on T-shirts, he's often quoted in Hollywood and Cuban President Castro loved him so much that he had him shot!

Come on down, our next contestant is.....

Ain't No Che, Man!

I never can figure out why so many young people love Che Guevara. I tried reading a few of his writings but most of it is wandering gibberish. And that's being kind. Che, as he is known, is associated with the progressives as a savior of the under class and the consumate anti-capitalist. It's funny how many people use his likeness to sell something.

If you have the time, here is a great article on the man that points out the real Che. Here is a teaser...
"Che Guevara was monumentally vain and epically stupid. He was shallow, boorish, cruel and cowardly. He was full of himself, a consummate fraud and an intellectual vacuum. He was intoxicated with a few vapid slogans, spoke in clichés and was a glutton for publicity.
But ah! He did come out nice in a couple of publicity photos, high cheekbones and all! And we wonder why he's a hit in Hollywood."

Friction Of The Day...

I'm starting a new daily podcast called, "Friction Of The Day". We all have those moments where something someone says or does just rubs us the wrong way. Well, this will be my release valve. I will post the podcast here and on my podcast feed.

today's FODcast (Friction of the day) will deal with Katrina and the Republicans response. The Democrats don't have to worry about the poor anymore, here comes Big Gov.

For first time visitors to The BigMoney here is a quick description. I'm America's only "Producer Advocate", I call myself a radical capitalist, neither conservative nor liberal. Just correct!
Poker, Pals or Personal...

They say as children we laugh over 400 times a day but as we grow older we laugh less and less and maybe that's why this world is in such a mess. So every couple of weeks a group of friends and I get together to play Texas Hold-em Poker. And of course let a couple of guys and girls inbibe a little to much and enventually all hell breaks loose. Well that happened last week.

I have been letting my mustache and beard grow a little long......

Imagine this guy with the mustache hangin down below my chin! So it reminds my wife of a biker we knew who managed to braid his with beads. And this is where the jokes began. The guys wanted to see who could come up with the winning object and it didn't take long as you can imagine....

I'll be adding other funny stuff I see along my journeys.....

Friction Of The Day...

Bad news for those on the left, President Bush IS human.

This is the kind of reporting that makes you wonder what they teach in college. Corruption in the form of the United Nations giving millions of your dollars away to dictators and this picture of President Bush asking to relieve himself makes the headlines. I can only imagine the likes of Michael Moore and Howard Dean finally having to admit that he is human after all. Now if only they can capture a picture of him bleeding green blood!

A Culture of Living Death
By Alex Epstein

Religious conservatives are calling the death of Terri Schiavo abetrayal of "the sanctity of human life." We must, they say, replace our existing culture with a new "culture o flife." "It should be our goal as a nation,"proclaims President Bush, "to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected."

The "sanctity of human life" has been a rallying cry for religious conservatives not just in the Schiavo case, but in their opposition to euthanasia and assisted suicide as such, and in their opposition to all abortion and embryonic stem cell research. By doing everything possible to preserve embryos, fetuses, and the incurably ill or vegetative, they say, we will bring about a "culture of life." "The problem we face . . ." declares conservative icon Rush Limbaugh, "is . . . a culture of death.>From abortion on demand . . . to embryonic stem cell research [to]assisted suicide."

But what would life actually be like in their so-called "culture of life"?

Consider a world without euthanasia and assisted suicide. Individuals with incurable and unbearable diseases would not be able die with dignity at a time of their own choosing, but would be subjected to aprotracted existence of often unspeakable agony. Their loved ones would have to endure torturous months or years seeing what was once a vibrant human being persist as a mass of pain or a vegetable--just as Michael Schiavo has had to see his wife for the last 15 years, in a state incapable of emotion, memory, or thought.

Or consider a world in which abortion were illegal, another staple of the "culture of life." Pregnant women who rationally desired to abort--whether because of accidental pregnancy, rape, birth defects, or danger to their lives--would be forced to undergo 20 years of enslavement to the needs of children they did not want to give birth to, or attempt dangerous, back-alley abortions, the kind that crippled or killed untold numbers of women before Roe v. Wade. To prohibit abortion would be to sentence countless women tospiritual--and sometimes literal--death.

Finally, consider a world without embryonic stem cell research. The stem cells that can be extracted from microscopic, 150-cell embryos have the potential to become any other type of human cell--and thus, say scientists, be used in therapies that could save or enhance millions of lives. To stop stem-cell research would be to deprive every one of these millions--including those with heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer's--of a longer, better life.

To uphold these positions in the name of the "sanctity oflife" is a colossal fraud. The so-called "culture of life" would not benefit human life, but cause massive suffering and death.

What could possibly justify the religious conservatives' crusade for such a world? "God's will," they answer. Our lives belong to God, they say, and He commands us not to end them "unnaturally," no matter how unbearable they become. God sanctifies bits of protoplasm, they say, and thus commands young women to abandon their ambitions in order to raise unwanted children, and commands everyone to abandon the breath taking promise of a new field of research.

This is the rise of the same medieval mentality that demanded rejection of the life-enhancing developments of anesthesia, the dissection of corpses, and birth control.

The religious conservatives do not value actual human life; they are consistent followers of the Christian ideal that human life is properly lived in sacrifice to God, and that suffering is proof of virtue. The worship of suffering is fundamental to Christianity, a religion whose central figure is glorified for dying a horrific death for the sins of mankind. A prominent religious conservative commented on the Schiavo case, "Terry Schiavo . . . is suffering in obedience to God's will." He added: "Isn't suffering in pursuit of God's will the exact center of religious life?"

This is the culture of death--of living death.

Human life is sacred--not because of supernatural declaration, but because of the unique nature and glorious potential of the individual, rational human life: to think, to create, to love, to experience pleasure, to achieve happiness here on earth. A true "culture of life" would leave individuals free to pursue their own happiness--free from coercive injunctions to sacrifice themselves to religious dogma. Such a culture is what we must seek to create, as we do everything possible to fight religious conservatives' culture of living death.

The second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq has come and past. Is the country better off? What better way to find out than to read from an Iraqi Blogger.

For the real story of Iraq I challenge you to read up a little!

Here is a taste:

2 Years

It has been now two years since the United States, UK and other countries invaded our nation. It has been two years since Iraqis have had to live with daily violent attacks and rampant terrorism. It has been two years since our nation began being turned upside down. It has been two years since the road to democracy began.

It has been a very hard two years. So many people have died, so much has been destroyed, so many drops of tears and blood have been shed, so many have been robbed of loved ones, and so many words have been spoken about Iraq, it's future, and this war.

Two years...seems like yesterday that I was awoken by bombs going off in Baghdad, and the realisation that my life and that of my country was going to change. That very day I remember being scared that my house might be destroyed by a bomb, or that my relatives who were forcibly put into the Iraqi army might be killed. Two years since Saddam came on TV, and pledged that Iraq would never fall. Little did he know, he surrendered like a rat in a whole only months later. Two years since my father had a heart attack.... Read more

Morality vs. God
IRVINE--The idea that morality is impossible without faith in God isan endlessly-repeated theme of several Fox News Channel talk showhosts. "This idea must be challenged," said Dr. YaronBrook, executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute.

"It implies that man has no reason or purpose to be moral; itimplies that no rational standard of morality is possible; it impliesthat in questions of morality man must suspend reason and blindly submit to faith or blindly obey some authority's'revelations' or 'mystical insights.' To imply that we have no earthly reason to be moral is profoundly immoral. "The purpose of morality," said Dr. Brook, "is todiscover and teach the principles that lead to life, achievement, happiness, success, joy. There is only one means to discover andunderstand these principles: reason. A proper morality, one for living on earth, requires rationality and independence of soul, not faith and obedience to self-appointed interpreters of an alleged omnipotent being. A proper morality looks not to the supernatural but at man's nature and the reason why he needs values--and then defines the values he must reach and the virtues he must practice toreach them.
Dr. Brook concluded: "Properly understood, not only does morality not require faith in God--morality is incompatible with faith in God. The moral is the rationally accepted and chosen, not the mindlessly believed and followed."

Now on to the news.

Ellen Ratner is an idiot, in my dubious opinion. Her
latest attack is against Karen Hughes who was brought back into the Bush Administration to help our image abroad. She fails to mention that President Bush has had more women, blacks and Latinos holding higher office than any administration. I especially love her "favorite women" comment. Sounds a little sexist to me!

Sports:

Global Warming is now affecting the sports world. I'm surprised the Environmentalists haven't picked this up yet! Kerron Clement just broke the 400 meter dash set by Michael Johnson in 1995 with a time of 44.57. Must be due to Global Warming, less air density I would surmise.
